Half-beat
The term half-beat typically refers to a rhythmic shift where percussive elements (like snares or claps) are played at half the regular rate, while the tempo stays the same. For example, in a 120 BPM track, instead of the snare hitting on beats 2 and 4 (regular time), it hits only on beat 3, giving a slower, heavier, or more laid-back feel. This groove is commonly used in trap, dubstep, and modern R&B.
