Glue compression
Glue compression is a type of compression used to “glue” the elements of a mix together, especially on a drum bus or mix bus. The goal isn’t to squash the sound, but to tighten the dynamics subtly, adding more cohesion, punch, and warmth to the overall mix. Inspired by vintage VCA compressors (like the SSL bus compressor), glue compression is widely used in mixing and mastering to create a unified sound.
