Rough balance is the initial stage of mixing, where the relative volumes of the tracks are adjusted without applying effects or processing. The goal is to create a first, coherent version where every element is audible and sits in the mix. This starting point helps define the priorities of the mix before adding EQ, compression, or spatial effects.
