Oscillator 1 setting
1/ Are tired hearing about this Triangle waveform for each tutorial? Don’t. You should keep practicing it over and over. There’s gonna be one day where you use another synthesizer without a sine wave and you are going to have to do the same thing. You might as well make this practice second nature and keep it in muscle memory too.
OSC1 : TRI / TUN : -24 / Level = 123

2/ We pair the Triangle with a Square (PUL) TUN= -12 and we mix it at a Level of 50…
Oscillator options
3/ OSC RETRIG = ON, The 808 Bass characteristics to bring this strong attack sound is BEND=+63 and SLI=38
Filters setting
4/ We filter odd harmonics out but differently here we want a bass and not a sub so we cut a little bit higher than the 808 Sub Recipe with Ladder Filter F1 FRQ: 48.36 and RES: 20 + a little bit of ENV = +12 – I reserved Multi-mode Filter (F2) in HP2 with a little boost RES: 12 and you can adjust the FREQ it’s not done here but you should experiment with it.

5/ As always we want a sustainable sound (Sustain=127) here if we want to play it like this. A more rhythmical melody is also possible.

6/ We set the filter to close on its value more quickly and we choose the default model number 2 if you’re not on this one.
What’s Next ?
- I will make and explain a 808 bass template, a starter template is like an INIT but it will configure all the basics to get started directly. You can load the template and you start tweaking you own 808 bass. The pitch envelope is setup and frequency wise the filters are in place. There’s only the basics provided it’s yours to take the template and go further with your own taste.
- I will post another new sound. I will load the 808 bass template myself. I want to take it further than what I have in mind regarding what bass sound I would like to make. To show you (sort of) the whole process of using a starter template based sound design. I hope you will like it as I like this bass patch called “TKN BASS 01” (What an original name right ? It is short for “TekiNovaH” = TKN i will always signed my Patch TKN as my own sound signature. Anyway I will not repeat that ever again. I will only mention it just this one time so you know what TKN means.
