What’s a Performance ?
A live performance in electronic music is when an artist creates or plays their music in real time on stage, using electronic devices like synthesizers, drum machines, samplers, controllers, and sometimes a computer.
Unlike a DJ set, where someone plays finished tracks (Not usually the case some DJ’s goes very deep), a live performer is actively building or reshaping the music on the spot. That could mean playing melodies on a keyboard, triggering drums and samples with pads, adjusting effects like reverb or filters, or even changing the structure of the track as they go.
Think of it like a band playing instruments live, but instead of guitars and drums, they’re using machines and software. The performance is often a mix of prepared material (like loops or parts of a song) and spontaneous actions, making every show a bit different and more personal.
Live electronic performances can be danceable, experimental, atmospheric, or raw, depending on the artist. They require both technical setup and musical creativity, and often result in an energetic and immersive experience for the audience — one that shows how electronic music can be performed with the same feeling and expression as any live music.
