Slices
Slices are segments cut from an audio sample, often taken from a longer loop or recording (like a musical phrase, vocal line, or drum break). Slicing is used to rearrange, recompose, or creatively manipulate the original sample. This technique is widely used in samplers and DAWs, using auto-slice features (based on transients, tempo, or grid). Slices let producers trigger parts of a sample as individual notes using a keyboard or pads — common in hip-hop, lo-fi, house, drum’n’bass, and more.
